We can see events in the Middle East heating up towards a great conflict that has been predicted for many millennia.  But even daily life brings many challenges and threats.  There is a spiritual war coming against you even if you don’t want to be part of it.  We will face real physical threats; crime, disasters and military warfare.  How can you have peace in the middle of a war?

RIGHT IN FRONT OF US

God is not unfair, and the church has an organized training plan.  THE BIBLE teaches our hands how to do warfare God’s way.  It even explains the principles by military examples.  The Old Testament warfare is given as a carnal example that our minds can understand.  Jesus pointed to a Roman soldier as having more faith than anyone is Israel.  The armor of faith is a real source of victory.

 OUTLINED BY GROWTH STEPS

Adam discovered the war that sin brings into our life.  Abraham was called to form a new nation.  His family grew into an army over many years.  Moses organized divisions and commanders for each tribe.  The patriarchs demonstrated the steps every new Christian will take in their growth.  They recognized and acknowledged the Messiah even before his New Testament revelation.  Our organization is detailed in the growth of the church, and recorded in these scriptures.

LESSONS FOR OUR LIMITED LEARNING ABILITY

 We can’t understand the depth of a Godly relationship without the intimacy of a faithful marriage relationship.  We don’t know the love he has for us until we see the bride of Christ revealed in the Song of Solomon.  We need to experience the horrors of carnal war to recognize the seriousness of the spiritual warfare that surrounds us.  We have to pray against the darkness with the same faith and determination David brought against the Philistines.  We war against spiritual powers and principalities even when carnal war is at our doorstep.

GOD USES MAN: WE ARE PARTICIPANTS…BEGIN TO CARE FOR OTHERS

We have our orders from these scriptures.  We are called to be watchmen in the tower, accountable for any who are slain if we fail to sound the alarm.  As watchmen we observe the peril of our brethren, and direct the army to protect our neighbors.  We have to care about others, and call to God to help them.  We are the forward observers for the artillery of heaven.  God can save his people without us, but he wants to share the experience of caring for others.  He is preparing us for a greater role to come.

CARNAL WAR TEARS FLESH, SPIRITUAL WAR TEARS THE DEMONS BEHIND THE FLESH

How often do we turn away souls by angry words?  We can’t set an example of longsuffering and patience if we can’t forgive.  We have been given the tools of prayer to attack the spirits that cause the bad behavior.  This is the hardest trial; to resist war with the person and focus on war with the spirit that drives the person.  We can pray for our neighbors while binding the demonic forces that drive them.

PUT ASIDE CHILDISH THINGS

Spiritual warfare is not weak.  Rees Howells* demonstrated the power of prayer to change the course of the Second World War.  The weapons being developed by Germany then are still high tech in this age.  We were facing a serious threat in that war.  However we Christians have access to the power that created the universe.  How can a mere atomic bomb compare to that?  Carnal warfare cannot stand in the face of our God.  With the birth of Israel we see the great tribulation battlefield shaping up.  Are we ready to roll out the real weapons?

CARNAL WORLD IS HOLLYWOOD BAALAM

We see the world influenced by many media forms that all point to the ungodly norm.  Balaam brought temptation to undermine Israel in his day.  It cost him, and others who challenge the church to this day.  The church may try to use the same modern media to fight back, but the world is skilled with their own tools.  We do not reach as far with those methods as the enemy does.

SPIRITUAL NEEDS NO MEDIA OR BUILDINGS

Jesus had no sound system or buildings.  You may find his tools to be more effective than technology.  His words still present themselves well in personal groups, even around a campfire.  Surround your audience with the wilderness night skies to reveal the glory of his creation.  A tent or a cabin in the state park can provide a distraction free retreat.  The bible delivers the bread of life, the voice that his sheep know as their master.  We are here to train God’s chosen, so the word is what separates the sheep from the goats.  Those who come to hear more are the ones you want to reach.  The bible is more than just words.

NO INTERNET OR RADIOS:  PRAYER

The internet can be a good tool, as the printing press was.  It can also be misused as other media have been.  But we do not need phone calls or e-mails for communication with God.  When I was in the Army, artillery was requested by forward observers.  Prayer is your radio to call for support from the batteries of heaven.  Watch over your friends, and detect the work of the spirit enemies of God.  We can pray against the spirits that fell with Lucifer.  We are expected to oppose those spirits without mercy.

TRAIN LEADERS FIRST, THEN CHILDREN

Our seniors should bring years of experience and spiritual maturity.  If they have been trained in Christian behavior, their example is the foundation of teaching for the younger leaders.  The bible will provide role models for every generation.

Onward, Christian soldiers

1.         Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,

            with the cross of Jesus going on before.

            Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;

            forward into battle see his banners go!

Refrain:

            Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,

            with the cross of Jesus going on before.

2.         At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;

            on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!

            Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;

            brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.

            (Refrain)

3.         Like a mighty army moves the church of God;

            brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.

            We are not divided, all one body we,

            one in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

            (Refrain)

4.         Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,

            but the church of Jesus constant will remain.

            Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail;

            we have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.

            (Refrain)

5.         Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,

            blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.

            Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King,

            this through countless ages men and angels sing.

            (Refrain)
