And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.  Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver and jewels of gold.  And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people.  Exodus 11:1-3

God moved the Egyptians to make loans of treasures to their Jewish neighbors.  They saw what God can do, and were offered a chance to invest in the future of Israel.  Such a deal!  Actually, the Egyptian church may reap great rewards in heaven today.  They are Christians under persecution in an age of jihad.  Like other Christians in Muslim lands, they will be honored for their stand of faith at God’s throne.  In Moses time they were just beginning to discover what was to come.  At least those who had wealth were not in Pharaoh’s army!

And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:  And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.  And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.  But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.  Exodus 11:4-7

Pharaoh is unable to let the Jews go, but this will be the final test.  This is to become a monument event in history.  All mankind will receive a notification of the deliverance of the blood of the lamb.  This is the Lord’s Passover, a type of the offering for the sin of man.

Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:  And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.  Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:  And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.  And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.  And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.  Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.  And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.  And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover.  For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.  Exodus 12:3-12

They must mark the door post with the blood of the lamb.  They must eat it fully dressed with their bags packed to move out.  They must eat fast, to be ready to leave immediately.  It is time to order the march.

And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.  And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.  Exodus 12:13-14

This is to be their security check, to allow them to live unharmed for the move to the promised land.  It is also to be a memorial feast forever after this.  We still keep the feast to a lamb who took our place for deliverance from the angel of death.

And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.  And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.  And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said.  Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also.  Exodus 12:29-32

Pharaoh was at last moved to release the people who’s God had cursed his own household with death.

And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:  And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.  Exodus 12:35-.6

The Egyptians had feared an armed revolt by the Jews, but this never happened.  Israel was without sin, and earned their just wages in the end.  There was no carnal warfare, but there was a spiritual warfare.  The spoils of war were taken by the conquerors.  God had given them victory without military conflict.  His weapons are mighty, and war is childish.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;  2 Corinthians 10:3-5

We have a more perfect weaponry in the spiritual realm, for mature warriors of the cross.

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.  1 Corinthians 13:10-11

Fighting with weapons, physical strength, lawyers, and government gangs is immature and childishly weak before God’s way.  We need to hear our Captain, and submit to his plan of battle.  In humility we find our real strength and spoil the strong and wise.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.  For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:  But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;  And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:  That no flesh should glory in his presence.

1 Corinthians 1:25-29

How many times have men bullied others in their physical strength.  Yet when challenged, they often back down to righteousness.  God has his glory in our weakness when we trust him for our courage.  We must walk in his commandments to enjoy this kind of power though.  We lose power as Sampson did when we begin to take shortcuts.

I have found many bodybuilders have a need for more strength.  Their insecurity can be insatiable, as they continue to need more size and power.    Often these are gentle people with insecurities from old self image issues.  Without knowing the source of strength, they can feel unfulfilled.  I know Christ confidence is greater than self confidence.  I long to share this source of peace with my friends who can not find quiet in their other quest.  They have great dedication and work hard for their goals.  If they discover the power of faith they can be giants in Jesus.  They have the determination to stay on course for a great journey.

Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.  And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.  It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.  Exodus 12:40-42
