God gave Solomon wisdom, and Solomon shared it with his people, including us today.  We need to remember that the Law was given to prove that we are not able to obey in total, and it condemns us to death.  Wisdom is given here with the knowledge that man would hear wisdom, and still have the free will to disobey.  Solomon had already taken wives with strange religions and his choices are actually leading Israel away from the wisdom he points us to.

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;  So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;  Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;  If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;  Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.  Proverbs 2:1-5

We need to study the words of this book and keep them fresh in our memory to know wisdom.  We need to cry out for wisdom, actually praying for this gift.  This request will be honored as the power and fear of God is unveiled to motivate your wisdom.

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.  He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.  He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.  Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.  When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;  Proverbs 2:6-10

God gives wisdom, and he speaks to us from our prayers and in the word that we have before us here.  He is the armor and safe passage of the willing student.  You will recognize the safe path when this wisdom enters you through the teaching of the Holy Spirit.

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:  To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;   Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;  Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;  Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:  Proverbs 2:11-15

There is safety in wisdom that protects us from the traps that await the rebellious and violent people.  Those have chosen the way of death for a season of lust who have no faith in the life to come.  These people around us celebrate their sins and have fellowship with the darkness of death.

To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;  Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.  For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.  None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.  That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.  Proverbs 2:16-20

That discretion of wisdom can save you from the beautiful temptress who uses your vanity to lead you to destruction.  These are the women (and men) who rebel against the wisdom of their parents and their God.  How many diseases, divorces, and deaths are multiplied in our modern world in the pattern of these ancient warnings!  The way of rebellious temptation is a downward spiral and today the world is circling the drain.  This wisdom will take you by the well marked path of life.

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.  But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it..  Proverbs 2:21-22

These men who stay on the path of wisdom are promised a home in their land which they may possess and stay in.  But the warning remains for the removal of evil men from their homelands.  It had already been done to the Canaanites before Israel, and this would also happen to the evil of Israel as we will see.
