Solomon has been given wisdom and finds it to be a fountain of wealth.  God gave him prosperity along with wisdom because he saw humility in this young king.  What is this wisdom that the young king is getting to know?

Proverbs 3

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:  So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.  Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  Proverbs 3:1-5

The wisdom of Solomon fits his place in God’s plan.  We are admonished to remember the Law but to let our heart keep his commandments.  Now we know that the Law kills by revealing the sin in our hearts.  Yet even then they could remember the law and desire them in their heart.  The will to do right itself can extend our days and health.  In time Jesus would open the way to salvation by faith, not by works.  He would save whosoever will, those who have the will to do right by accepting Yeshua, their messiah.  Mercy and truth were to be close to our heart, in our desire, not tied to our bodies in little boxes.  This is the path to life, not in the outward signs and rituals of religion.  Every cult is a deviation into our own carnal efforts to be religious.  God wants us to know that we are failures as we remember the Law that condemns us.  God welcomes the willing, the merciful, the humble, not the self righteous.  God wants us to turn to him for forgiveness, to trust him more than our imagined duties and dogmatic rituals.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.  Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.  Proverbs 3:6-10

When David repeated a message to praise God it was to make the world around us aware of our hope.  Everything we do should reflect the hope we have in God.  Our work ethic, our recreation, our words all belong to our fear of God.  The natural or carnal wisdom suggests the value of cheating.  A young singer chooses to become a musical harlot to tap the wealth of an immoral world of young rebellion.  A rich man runs for president claiming to be a Christian while speaking like a hateful fool.  His Presbyterian church embraces homosexuality while the candidate hides his “faith” as being “personal”.  King David advised such leaders to praise the Lord, not to hide the Lord.  This is faith; to honor the Lord with your tithe and your life.  The fruit of faith is prosperity.

My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:  For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.  Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.  For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.  She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.  Proverbs 3:11-15

Don’t feel bad if you discern that God himself is punishing you.  First you should know that your hearing is not dull if you recognize God’s voice.  His sheep know their master’s voice; and they know if it is meaning reward or reproof.  Then know that your father in heaven is as loving as any good father; he means to teach you to be right.  As we grow the punishment diminishes from spankings to just the words of correction that we will be wise enough to respond to.  When you find this wisdom you can recognize that love will guide you to prosperity.  The temptation to backslide into the carnal world has no wealth that can compare to the value of a clear conscience.  That will carry you to treasures in heaven beyond imagination.  Remember; this life is only an entrance exam for the true life, the great life, the eternal life.  God has a plan for you there if you follow his plan here.

Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.  Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.  She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.  The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.  By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.  Proverbs 3:16-20

There is promise for a long life, honor, and wealth in this world, with the help of wisdom.  It may seem slow in coming but this path will be the most rewarding.  We are in the world, but not of it.  If there is a father in heaven, there is a mother on earth in wisdom.  There was a tree of life in Eden, and it is the same now in the wisdom she offers you here.  Take of the fruit of wisdom instead of that of the tree of carnal knowledge.  This wisdom is the foundation of the universe.  We can understand science and nature fully only when we understand the wisdom that begins with the fear of God.  God and wisdom are your father and mother in everything.

My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:  So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.  Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.  When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.  Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.  Proverbs 3:21-25

God admonished Solomon to keep the Law and the Commandments close to his heart.  These are the Word of God, and now we know that the Word is the Son of God in the flesh, a life given to demonstrate wisdom to us.  No mortal could do that until Yeshua Ha Meschia who gave grace to the Old Testament after his crucifixion.  If Solomon would keep the desire for wisdom in his heart he would be drawn to repent as his father had.  When I was living in sin I learned that the Psalms of David could show me peace and let me sleep without being drunk.  So the patriarchs too had sin but knew peace if they kept the commandments in their heart.  David was an adulterer and a murderer and was still a man after God’s own heart.  They found shelter from fear in the promises of God in this life.  He is our hope.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.  John 1:1-5

John knew the name of the Lord, he had walked with him and talked with him, even as the song “In the Garden”.  John knew that Yeshua and Yahweh, Jesus and God, were one and the same.  If Jesus was the designer and builder of the universe, then his life, the Bible, is also that creator.  The word and the commandments are born of wisdom, and she began as the fear of God the father.  Family values go full circle in the meaning of life.

For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.  Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.  Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.  Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.  Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.  Proverbs 3:26-30

We have one great anchor in our God.  We can operate with confidence in the wisdom that points to mercy and charity.  If you are able to give to others we should do it without waiting for the government to demand a tax for it.  If the church is working we should never hear about a need for welfare.  We shouldn’t seek revenge against our sinner neighbors because we are all sinners.  Otherwise our churches would be empty.  We should never harm a neighbor because he has a different religion or ethnicity because they are doing no harm to us.  Those harm themselves because they are deprived of the wisdom we claim to possess.  If we share the love of Jesus they may want to find this wisdom for themselves.  There are Christians winning many Muslims to Jesus in ISIS territories today by this wisdom.  The Lord is our confidence to do good.

Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.  For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.  The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.  Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.  The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools. Proverbs 3:31-35

The popular masses love the cheaters and loud bigots who get quick wealth and power.  We shall not envy those who pervert wisdom for personal gain and fame.

Turning back to one’s own ways; difficult to deal with: stubbornly disobedient or contrary; going in one’s own willful ways.

Habitually disposed to disobedience and opposition

Distortion, crookedness, to go wrong; go crooked, backsliding, twisted, distorted, crooked, perverse, perverted, perversity, or perverse thing.

Not easily controlled; stubbornly willful; contrary

These are an abomination to God, an offense, while he secretly supports the honest and obedient.  There is a master controlling this life, a secret force of judgment in the universe.  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, because his promise is eternal.  Do not fear the death of the saints, because they have been promoted into the eternal life, the greater life, the great reward.  Solomon had the promises of God without the revelation of the eternal life or the immediate grace of Yeshua.  But his generation would live by wisdom by faith even as we do in this life today.  We will see rewards for faith even as Yeshua revealed grace to his generation.  We have witnessed thousands of years of testimony that remains unshaken today.  God gives grace to the faithful, but reserves shame for the fools of the world.
