ROAD MAP

Proverbs are for wisdom and wisdom is for saving you from destruction.  These are part of our bible, which is the representation of God and Yeshua in our world.  His life is the measurement by which life is judged.  If you are going to stand at the judgment, you need a map of the journey of life.  You have been given this map in this book.  At times the map may suggest slowing down for bad conditions; make wise choices.

Proverbs 14:1-11

1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

I’m sure you don’t expect every woman to be a construction worker.  But you also don’t expect her to be a home wrecker.  How many ways can she tear her house (and her family) down?  Gossip, addictions, adultery, poor stewardship, arguments and strife are a few.  A good woman builds he whole family by good works in material and spiritual ways.  She brings honor to her husband and children by her righteousness.  Men; don’t forget that the church is the bride of Christ.  That means that we men must have the same standards as members of the church.  We should be a good spiritual head of household for our family.

2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the Lord: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

We can identify those who fear the Lord because his wisdom manifests in their good works.  One who is continually bitter, angry, violent, criminal, or offensive is giving the evidence of hating God.  Eventually even hidden crimes are revealed to identify the enemies of God.

3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

So many fools are convinced of their goodness that they are ready to strike anyone who identifies their sins.  Their words may hurt like being thrashed with a rod.  Wisdom is always diplomatic and one who is slow to anger passes safely through danger with grace.

4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

If you can’t find human weakness you won’t find coworkers of any value.  If you can forgive and cooperate you will find much value in our mortal friends.  Best not treat them like oxen though!  Value those who will join the work and be blind to their flaws.  One might even tolerate the hassle of unions when they are delivering the profits.

5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

Our righteous friends are sure to tell the truth even if they face harm or loss.  An enemy will protect himself by lying every time.  These ways become a pattern that we will come to recognize and learn from.  Eventually many will recognize deceit and turn on it.

6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

Some people are so bitterly against different opinions that they really can’t hear the other person at all.  They have a verdict without evidence, judge, or jury.  Real wisdom often requires some listening and willingness to weigh the information.  Those who seek truth already have some understanding and right answers so not elude them.

7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

If we are too close wrong ideas long enough we may either be tempted to believe or we may be seen as an associate when judgment comes.  We may even have to compare our church to the scriptures to discern deviation from truth.  We have to leave when we become aware of sin.  Don’t drink the cool-aid.

8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

We have prayer, bible study and spiritual companions to show us a safe passage.  Yet it is common for people to reject wisdom and follow deception.  There are so many scams and liars that it becomes easy to be a victim.  This bible warns that many will be deceived.

9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

Well don’t we have a WORLD of mockery today!  I guess the Christians get beat up just a little bit about celibacy, marriage, heterosexuality, and…oh yeah; believing in God!  That last item is the real problem for their critics.  The cost to those mockers is disease, broken relationships, pregnancies, death, and yet…no repentance.  And that last part is their real danger because their God is hurt.  Those who live a righteous life learn to go past abuse and comfort their god by their faith, and he comforts them with his faithfulness.

10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

You know all about the lifetime of grief that has left you with a few bitter regrets.  You were there and no one else can see or feel the things that formed your sorrows.  There is only one who can witness, and on occasion that God may send a friend who can offer you some comfort.  But they are wise not to try to interfere with foolish joy.

11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

Today in Israel Palestinian terrorists are attacking Jewish citizens with violence.  In return the courts of Israel condemn the homes of these terrorists to demolition.  That is a very literal demonstration, but God is able to achieve this result on his own too.  In both cases the righteous people have made the land prosper and grow.

The bible is the Word, it is the instructions formed of the testimony of God himself.  He lived it in the flesh.  The Word is the life of Jesus with us today.  If we are to be found as pure as the bride of Christ, we must know him by reading him.  Pope Francis denies that Jesus is the only name by which men are saved.  Donald Trump feels no need to involve God in his business or to seek forgiveness.  You will not find life by following the leaders of the world.  Jesus is the Word; your bibles are to be read, not collected.  Decisions are your responsibility, not your president’s or your pastor’s.
