We should be able to recognize when our world is plunged into a terrible storm.  The morals of nations have fallen into corruption that threatens the foundations of our confidence.  When every warning sign says that the wrath of God should be due we can navigate to a safe haven.  First we have to know the danger of the situation, then we can look for the aids to navigation.  If we see that light we can target the harbor that offers a calm anchorage.

Proverbs 17

Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.  A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.  The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.  A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.  Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.  Proverbs 17:1-5

Being quiet is a huge challenge to some.  Being content with a bland snack is better than having a house full of feats that are disturbed by bitter arguments.

Oh you will need a wealth of wisdom to control a rebellious child.  That may come as we seek God for wisdom, and that can salvage our relationships with the community and God.

While precious metals are melted by fire God melts our hearts with tribulations.

Those who intend to do evil are quick to listen to false accusations and lies feed their words.

Those who mock the poor, and accuse them of leeching on society actually insult God who made them.  Those who celebrate an opponent’s troubles will be punished.  I am sure I have seen all of this in our latest presidential election!

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.  Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.  A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.  He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.  A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.  Proverbs 17:6-10

Grandparents are honored by their grandchildren and children are honored by their parents.

A great educated speech will add no value to one who is a natural fool.  Similarly, a speech composed of lies and deception devaluates a leader of men.

A gift is a treasure to the one who receives it, increased in value by honor from the giver.  That gift will serve as prosperity in all the recipient puts it to.

Anyone who hides a friend’s sins wants to be a true friend.  But one who is a tattle tale is an enemy who makes enemies out of his friends.

A simple word of correction in private will actually do good for one who is wise enough to accept it.  It will do more good than one hundred lashes of the whip will do for a fool.

My father left me an inheritance of money, and some wisdom as well.  My father in heaven left me his son, and a share of his inheritance.  I hope that all the correction I have received will be witnessed by my family in Christ.  With God’s help their memory may erase the weakness my flesh has demonstrated.

An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.  Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.  Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.  The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.  He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.  Proverbs 17:11-15

If a man is truly evil enough to stir rebellion he faces a hard end.  This scripture is not a threat from his enemies, but from our God.  This is true foolishness to oppose God.

Better you should meet a bear that has had her cubs killed than to meet such a fool who wants you to join his madness.

Anyone who punishes honesty with lies and evil will never see any good thing in his own home.

A disagreement may begin as the first trickle of a bursting dam, so do not be the one to trigger the flood that may drown you.

All who call evil good and call good evil are and obscene offense to God.

False accusations and lies against the righteous will bring destruction from God.

Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?  A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.  A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.  He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.  He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.  Proverbs 17:16-20

If a fool could buy wisdom why should he bother if he has no intention to use that wisdom?  that almost sounds like a warning to Solomon considering that he abandoned all this wisdom for a season.  But he was able to recover late in his life.  How many of us today can make no use of all the education in the world?

Friends do not break down over minor differences but a brother by blood may be born to be your adversary.  This gives me hope for the next verse that a true friend may cover my own foolishness.

One who becomes a co-signer for a friend has no common sense whatever.  Yeah, I made a big loan for a friend a couple of years ago.  I can only hope that he will prove to be a friend over time.

A person that loves to do wrong loves to fight and one who brags about the strength of the gates of his home can expect his enemies to bring destruction through those gates.

He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.  A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.  A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.  Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.  A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.  Proverbs 17:21-25

One who gives birth to a fool gives birth to his own grief.  That father has no joy.

The joy of a happy heart produces good health but grief is a poison to health.

The evil man reaches into his coat to produce a bribe that makes corruption rule over justice.

A smart person keeps his focus directly on wisdom while a fool looks at everything else that may distract or entice him.

A fool is nothing but grief to his parents.

Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.  He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.  Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.  Proverbs 17:26-28

Punishing the innocent is bad, convicting an innocent person is evil, as is getting violent revenge on an authority or an official of the law.

Anyone who knows what he is talking about doesn’t waste words and really smart people have good relations with people.

Everyone thinks a quiet person is wise because he doesn’t give away his ignorance.  Actually keeping our mouth shut often is proof of real intelligence.

So many of these things are seen in our government when they are so common among the people who vote for our leaders.  We are a nation in need of judgment.

MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA BY SHAMING US.  Shout all the evil secrets of this nation from the housetops so we must hide our faces and seek your graces.  Open all the works of the illuminati and the Bohemian Grove for all the world to read.  Reveal the greed of every oil, coal, and chemical company to the victims of our wars and pollution.  Revive the pain of shame that should have always been attached to every broken treaty with native Americans.  Show the sins of our lust even when it is hidden among our most religious phonies.  Strip away the spiritual pride of false religion and false prophets.  Make us ashamed of our nation and naked to need the shelter of your Kingdom Lord.  Make us citizens who desire only your kingdom and your King, Yeshua Ha Meschia, Jesus.  I pray this in the name of Jesus that  your sheep will remain in your grace even as many are lost and replaced by Israel.  We welcome The children of Abraham to the Kingdom of God as you fulfill your promises to them.

The good news is that there is no amount of shame that God cannot forgive.  For all the darkness in the hearts of evil men the light of God can make us right again.  The one name who forgives and restores us is Jesus.  He alone brings us out of the evil of our deeds by faith in his redeeming sacrifice on the cross.
