CARNAL DECEPTION

Everybody else is bigger and more attractive than me.  They win the contests and earn the big paychecks.  They marry the beautiful people while I seem to be an ugly bug in the plan of God.  Then as I am being crushed, I remember to cry out to God for help.  All of the disasters of my entire life are revealed to be the lessons that open the doors to victory.  In the grace of God I am promoted to the place of honor.

Proverbs 23:1-18

1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:  2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.  3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

When invited to dine with a rich man watch your back.  When he feeds you the good things of life, expect to be indebted for the favors.  If you enjoy indulging yourself too much you might as well kill yourself before he does.

4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.  5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

Do not work for wealth, and forget about what you consider to be wisdom.  Why aim at a goal that is not real?  Money and wealth are as elusive as the wild eagle, they are already gone.

6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:  7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.  8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

Well God repeats himself when the message is urgent.  Do not take the good things of life from a man who has evil ways.  He may be spoiling you with good things but he is drawing you into a trap.  The sweet treats will turn to puke before you are done.

9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Well if anyone disregards these words he has a problem.  If you try to fix the broken person he will break you.  There will be no love coming from him.

10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:  11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.

A landmark today is the measurement point of the surveyor.  It establishes ownership of the lands of your neighbors.  Do not cross those lines or try to steal the lands of the poor.  They have a promise of protection from their God.  He can make you an offer that you can’t refuse.

12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

Put all of your mind, heart and soul into learning wisdom.  Identify and listen to the teachers who have righteous knowledge.

13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.  14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

This is so unpopular in the world of political correctness.  But then is there anything correct in the world of political?  I will inject a warning from the New Testament that we can apply here:

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  Matthew 7: 13-15

Those of us who find life are few in number.  The minority does not win elections, and the winners are not the people of God.  So when they tell you not to discipline your children know that you are hearing the wolves who would eat your children.  This is your family, keep them away from the wolves with proper correction.  That does not include violence that does permanent harm and will turn your children against you.

15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.  16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

When your children are righteous and wise it is the greatest reward for parents.  We have the opportunity to learn from this which is the word of God.  Jesus is called the Word because his wisdom has been displayed in both testaments of this bible.  He is the word.  The creator himself is pleased when we study his life and show ourselves approved.

17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long.  18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

Strength, beauty, wealth and power seduce the people of the world.  The carnal man admires the power and beauty of the celebrities around us.  How often do we witness their fall when those values shoot them down in flames.  We are blessed when strength escapes us and we remember to turn to God for help.  Real heroes are weak enough to fear the Lord and be delivered from impossible opposition.
